Brock Built partners with WSB-TV Channel 2 to build Going Green “The Green House.” This environmentally responsible demonstration home will showcase sustainable design features attainable by the typical Atlanta family. The finished home will be auctioned in October. Proceeds will be donated to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

All of the proceeds from the Green House auction benefit CHOA, improving the healthcare for Atlanta’s youth. Of course, I would never recommend purchasing a house that you have not seen, so take advantage of the available tours. (Continued…)
It’s been a while since we’ve highlighted some green features in the Green House, and now that it is open for tours, I think it’s more important you have all of the information. By knowing describing what it is that makes the Green House “green,” you’ll know what to keep your eyes looking for when on your tour.
The Rainharvest Company installed a rain harvest system and water re-use system. These systems will enable the homeowner to reduce their potable water consumption by re-using their laundry and bath water to irrigate the gardens. Capturing rain water will provide supplemental water for irrigation but also enable the homeowner to wash their car or any other outdoor use which they would desire. (Continued…)

One of the largest energy consumers in a home is the HVAC system. Thus, when constructing the Green House, it was imperative to find the appropriate company to install a system that would be energy efficient and not leave a large carbon footprint. So, if you are in the market for a green HVAC system, this is the one that was installed on the Brock Built Green House, with a full description of what makes this particular system energy efficient and green:
Installed by Lennox & Spence Heating and Air Conditioning -
Air Conditioner: ENERGY STAR qualified that deliver superior performance in
all areas important to today’s consumers – comfort, control, energy efficiency,
quiet operation, environmental responsibility, and reliability. The energy-efficient cooling systems also use R410A refrigerant, which is environmentally friendly and chlorine-free.
Gas Furnace: The furnace is crafted with uncompromising design to deliver efficiency ratings of up to 92.1%, which can save the homeowners hundreds of dollars on energy bills each year compared to older furnaces. (Continued…)
The Brock Built Green House is just about complete. We have some updated photos for your viewing pleasure. I think it’s time we take a minute to recall exactly what this extraordinary project represents.
First off, it represents many donated hours of labor and donated products. There is no way we can say thank you enough to all of the vendors that have helped make this charitable dream a reality. This one project really illustrates how the Atlanta community comes together to support a great cause, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the BEST causes around. (Continued…)
It won’t be much longer before we have photos of the finished community service project for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, but in the meantime I am going to describe even more green features that went into the construction of the Green House.
The exterior windows are Silverline brand, distributed by Robert Bowden, Inc. Silverline is an ENERGY STAR partner. Their windows reduce solar heat gain and minimize heat loss which keeps homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. A full 100% of any scrap vinyl, glass, aluminum, or cardboard remaining from production is recycled and reused. (Continued…)
Brock Built’s Green House is almost at completion, and while we have been periodically giving progress updates, including the green practices, I think it’s time to go into a little more detail as to why this community service project is “The Green House.”
More than being EarthCraft certified and built to the standards of ENERGY Star, green practices have gone into all the details with the Green House. For example, the interior trim, constructed by TLC Mouldings, utilizes MDF moulding. This particular product is an environmentally friendly product because no trees were harvested specifically for its manufacture. In addition, TLC uses materials that are made from sawmill by-products making this a green product as well. (Continued…)
Juan’s Drywall, Inc. out of Lawrenceville, GA completed the drywall on the Green House last week. With the drywall being completed, the house is really starting to take frame of an actual home. Juan’s Drywall was very excited to volunteer to work on this home because of the charitable donation Brock Built is making with the auction. For those that don’t know, the Atlanta Green House is a home being built on a volunteer basis by Atlanta builders. The house is utilizing (and exceeding) all of the new standards necessary to make the house qualify as a “green home.” Once completed in October, the Green House will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. The great part about this home is not only is it a charitable donation that will help children in Atlanta, but also that it will serve as a great example of respecting our environment for future homes built all over the country. With progress mounting so fast, the dreams of the Atlanta Green House are finally becoming a reality.
Loud Security Systems, Inc. installed a central vacuum system into the Atlanta Green Home. Central vacs make cleaning easier and are more efficient than hand held vacuums. They can also add value to the re-sale value of your home, making them the perfect addition to this unique project. The Atlanta Green Home is making progress every day and is right on schedule to be auctioned off for Children’s Health Care of Atlanta in October. With lots of upgrades and green standards throughout the home, this unique house can serve as a new green standard for new homes all around Georgia! Loud Security Systems, Inc. started as a family business and is passionate about customer service. They always stand behind their products and workmanship and were very excited to be apart of the Green Home.
Better Blown Insulation installed an eco-friendly cotton insulation, versus the traditional fiberglass insulation, in the Atlanta Green Home. This particular type of insulation was made from cellulose which reduces the irritation to skin, as well as to the nose and throat. The cellulose insulation was put in the Green House because it is made from 85% recycled paper fiber and is a high efficiency thermal product. This means that the insulation will hold more heat in the house so that the home will use less energy to keep the home at a comfortable temperature year-round. (Continued…)
