Midtown lawyer, Kinshasa K. Williams, recently became the proud owner of Brock Built’s Green House. The EarthCraft home had been open to the public for tours since completion in August 2008. When Williams closed on her new eco-friendly home not only did she purchase a new home, but it also resulted in a $225,000 donation to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Prior to buying the Green House, Williams lived in a condominium in Midtown. As a native of New Orleans, Williams was immediately drawn to the large porches and Craftsman style of the Green House. Interiors of the home include energy efficient appliances, plumbing, doors and windows as well as environmentally friendly plants. The beautiful exteriors include an herb garden, rain garden, outdoor fireplace, rain barrel and much more. Continue reading

Atlanta’s most exciting green building project is one step closer to completion as Thomas Concrete and Blaine Aldridge have poured the foundation. Here at Green Built Blog, we love to give you construction updates on the Brock Built Green House because Atlanta is proud of these vendors and sponsors that are working so hard to raise money for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. We expect to see many milestones passed throughout these summer months as we work hard to keep the anticipated September completion date.
With the foundation done, we can move on to more fun and exciting construction phases, like putting up the frame. The upcoming construction will really help us be able to see the house come together and learn exactly what steps need to be taken to make a house environmentally-friendly. Hopefully many Atlanta homebuilders, and national homebuilders for that matter, will see that it is not too expensive to make green building choices when building new homes and that the advantages are limitless.
