Green Atlanta Home Builder Uses Family Farm as Natural Resource

green Atlanta home builderWhen it comes to buying an energy-efficient new home in Atlanta, you want to choose a builder you can trust. Many builders say they can build you a green home, but finding one that actually encompasses earth-friendly qualities in their everyday lives is rare. Brock Built’s dedication to not only building green, but also living green is what makes them stand apart.

In fact, when you purchase a Brock Built home, you can rest assured that all of the natural stone in your new place came from Fox Mountain, which is located on the Brock family farm. The stone is harvested from their property, sifted and carried by dump truck back to Atlanta. Then, their on-site masons hand chisel the stone to make sure every single piece is a unique work of art. Once they are done, the stone is then ready to be used in fireplaces, firepits, home exteriors, landscaping boulders and retaining walls.

In addition to gathering all of their natural stone from the property, the farm is also run completely on solar power. Their solar energy system uses a series of panels to send the energy the home and well require to batteries. And, all of the home’s water is heated through tankless water heaters, which are more efficient in terms of energy and money.

Being committed to an eco-friendly lifestyle is just part of what makes this Atlanta home builder‘s GreenSmart program stand out from others like it. All of their homes are built to high standards for energy efficiency, and they include features such as radiant barrier roofing, spray-on fiberglass insulation, house wrap, high efficiency light bulbs, ENERGY STAR appliances and 14 Seer A/C units.

Atlanta Home Builder Improves GreenSmart Program

Atlanta new homesPantone, the world’s color authority for almost 50 years, recently declared 2013 the year of Emerald green. Brock Built, your trusted Atlanta home builder for more than 25 years, also offers our own shade of green for 2013 with our GreenSmart® program.

The GreenSmart program was designed in order to help our homeowners save energy and money. Currently, buildings consume 40 percent of all energy in the United States, but our homes built under the comprehensive GreenSmart program consume significantly less.

Recently, we updated our program to enhance energy savings even more. Before, we offered buyers the option of several different types of insulation including Batt and Blown Fiberglass insulations. Now, however, we are proud to exclusively use Cellulose insulation in our homes. This product is made purely from recycled newspapers and other paper sources, which means it is inherently more environmentally friendly. Additional benefits include decreased air infiltration, increased noise reduction, superior mold control and a higher fire safety rating.

In addition to Cellulose insulation, our GreenSmart program also includes Radiant Barrier Roofing, House Wrap, spray foam air barriers, air sealing, low flow plumbing fixtures, 14 Seer A/C units, high efficiency light bulbs and ENERGY STAR appliances, all of which are tested by third party.

So, while you make preparations to deck out your space with Emerald in 2013, you should also consider taking your dedication to green to the next level by purchasing a GreenSmart Atlanta new home from Brock Built.

The Green House is Almost Complete

Brock Built’s Green House is almost at completion, and while we have been periodically giving progress updates, including the green practices, I think it’s time to go into a little more detail as to why this community service project is “The Green House.”

More than being EarthCraft certified and built to the standards of ENERGY Star, green practices have gone into all the details with the Green House. For example, the interior trim, constructed by TLC Mouldings, utilizes MDF moulding. This particular product is an environmentally friendly product because no trees were harvested specifically for its manufacture.  In addition, TLC uses materials that are made from sawmill by-products making this a green product as well. Drywall Completed for Green House

Juan’s Drywall, Inc. out of Lawrenceville, GA completed the drywall on the Green House last week. With the drywall being completed, the house is really starting to take frame of an actual home. Juan’s Drywall was very excited to volunteer to work on this home because of the charitable donation Brock Built is making with the auction. For those that don’t know, the Atlanta Green House is a home being built on a volunteer basis by Atlanta builders. The house is utilizing (and exceeding) all of the new standards necessary to make the house qualify as a “green home.” Once completed in October, the Green House will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. The great part about this home is not only is it a charitable donation that will help children in Atlanta, but also that it will serve as a great example of respecting our environment for future homes built all over the country. With progress mounting so fast, the dreams of the Atlanta Green House are finally becoming a reality.
