National Green Building Awards Winners Announced at 2013 IBS

NAHB National Green AwardsRecently, several builders, remodelers and other industry professionals were recognized as winners of the National Green Building Awards given by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The awards were presented as part of the 2013 International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas.

Each year, the NAHB recognizes individuals, companies and organizations for excellence in residential green design and construction practices as well as green building program and advocacy efforts.
“This year’s winners are particularly impressive,” said NAHB Chairman Barry Rutenberg, a home builder from Gainesville, Fla. “All of those honored have shown superior dedication and leadership to the mission of sustainable and eco-friendly living.”

Individual Project Awards

  • The New Edition at Damonte Ranch, Reno, Nev., for Project of the Year: Single-family, Small Volume
  • Maryland Green Designer Show Home, Gambrills, Md., for Project of the Year: Single-family, Custom
  • Persimmon – Willis Ranch, San Antonio, Texas, for Project of the Year: Single-family, Production
  • Seabourn Cove, Boynton Beach, Fla., for Project of the Year: Multifamily
  • Finding Paradise on Picardy, Raleigh, N.C., for Project of the Year: Remodel

Green Building Advocacy Awards

  • Drew Smith, Two Trails, Sarasota, Fla., for Advocate of the Year: Individual
  • Dan Wise, Wise Construction, Boalsburg, Pa., for Advocate of the Year: Builder
  • Paul Sullivan, The Sullivan Company, Inc. Newton, Mass., for Advocate of the Year: Remodeler
  • Maryland Residential Green Building Council, for Advocate of the Year: Group
  • Build San Antonio Green, for Advocate of the Year: State/Local Government

Laclede Gas Company of St. Louis, Mo., was also named the Utility Partner of the Year for its dedication to high-performance building, the ICC-700 National Green Building Standard and education at the local and national level.

National Green Building Award Winners Announced

iStockThe National Association of Home Builders recently announced the National Green Building Award winners. The awards, which were presented on April 30 during the 14th annual National Green Building Conference in Nashville, were given to eleven industry professionals and companies.

The three-day conference include educational programs, green product exhibits, local green home tours and the Muddy Boots Mixer, which is a networking and awards event.

“These awards recognize the best and most innovative builders and remodelers in green building”, said NAHB Chairman Barry Rutenberg, a home builder from Gainesville, Fla. “The demand for green building is growing in leaps and bounds, and these winners set a great example of what can be accomplished in terms of sustainable and energy efficient building practices.”

Five single-family home projects were honored:

  • Purdue University of West Lafayette, Ind., for Project of the Year, Single-Family Concept and Research- Academic
  • Meritage Homes of Goodyear, Ariz., for Project of the Year, Single-Family Production Builder
  • TC Legend Homes/Zero-Energy Plans LLC of Coupeville, Wash., for Project of the Year, Single-Family Concept and Research- Enterprise
  • Chandler Design-Build Inc. of Mebane, N.C., for Project of the Year, Single-Family Small Volume Builder
  • MGM Construction of San Francisco, for Project of the Year, Single-Family Custom Builder

Two remodeling projects and one multifamily project were also honored:

  • Trifecta Construction Solutions of Fort Meyers, Fla., for Multifamily Project of the Year
  • G HOME of Rocking Horse Redevelopment of Phoenix, Ariz., for Remodeling Project of the Year Under $100,000
  • G HOME by Rocking Horse Redevelopment of Phoenix, Ariz., for Remodeling Project of the Year Over $100,000

Two awards were given to individuals or organizations for their efforts in green building advocacy:

  • G STREET of Scottsdale, Ariz., as Remodeler Advocate of the Year
  • The Mungo Companies of Irmo, S.C. for Builder Advocate of the Year

A new award, NAHB Green Outstanding Contribution Award, was also presented to T.W. Bailey, of WaterMark Custom Builders in Frisco, Texas.

Enter the National Green Building Awards Today!

National Association of HomebuildersEach year the National Association of Home Builders holds the National Green Building Awards to honor builders and developers who excel in green residential design, construction practices and outstanding green advocacy efforts through the National Green Building Awards.

If this sounds like you then make sure to get together all the necessary paperwork and forms and send them in. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted no later then February 3, 2010 on one CD. No print materials will be accepted or reviews.

Award categories include:

  • Advocate of the Year (Builder, Remodeler, Individual, Group)
  • Advocate of the Year (State or Local Government)
  • Green Project(s) of the Year (Single Family, Remodel, Multifamily)
  • Green Site Development of the Year
  • HBA Green Building Program of the Year (New and Existing)

All projects entered in the Green Project of the Year category must have been started after June 2008 and substantially completed by December 2009, in order to be eligible.

How will the projects be scored?

All project entries can be scored to the green certification program of the applicant’s choice. But in order to better facilitate the judging process, all single-family homes must be scored with the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines or the ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard.

Multifamily and site development projects must be scored using the ICC 200-2008 National Green Building Standard.

ThisĀ  Online Green Scoring Tool, provided by the National Association of Home Builders will generate checklists that can easily be saved to the submission disk.

All winners will receive one complimentary ticket to the awards dinner on May 17, 2010 as part of the 12th Annual National Green Building Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina.

So don’t delay! Make sure you fill out your forms and get your applications in as soon as possible.
