The Green House Features

It’s been a while since we’ve highlighted some green features in the Green House, and now that it is open for tours, I think it’s more important you have all of the information. By knowing describing what it is that makes the Green House “green,” you’ll know what to keep your eyes looking for when on your tour.

The Rainharvest Company installed a rain harvest system and water re-use system. These systems will enable the homeowner to reduce their potable water consumption by re-using their laundry and bath water to irrigate the gardens. Capturing rain water will provide supplemental water for irrigation but also enable the homeowner to wash their car or any other outdoor use which they would desire. Continue reading

More Features of the Green House

It won’t be much longer before we have photos of the finished community service project for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, but in the meantime I am going to describe even more green features that went into the construction of the Green House.

The exterior windows are Silverline brand, distributed by Robert Bowden, Inc. Silverline is an ENERGY STAR partner. Their windows reduce solar heat gain and minimize heat loss which keeps homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. A full 100% of any scrap vinyl, glass, aluminum, or cardboard remaining from production is recycled and reused. Continue reading

The Green House is Almost Complete

Brock Built’s Green House is almost at completion, and while we have been periodically giving progress updates, including the green practices, I think it’s time to go into a little more detail as to why this community service project is “The Green House.”

More than being EarthCraft certified and built to the standards of ENERGY Star, green practices have gone into all the details with the Green House. For example, the interior trim, constructed by TLC Mouldings, utilizes MDF moulding. This particular product is an environmentally friendly product because no trees were harvested specifically for its manufacture.  In addition, TLC uses materials that are made from sawmill by-products making this a green product as well. Progress Update on the Green House

Revolutionary Green Pesticide SolutionNorthwest Exterminating visited the Brock Built Green House on June 18 to pretreat the house for termites. This step is definitely a necessity in the homebuilding process as it prevents termites from doing damage to the house. Since they were volunteering their work on the Green House, which is to be built to green standards, Northwest Exterminating used a green solution when spraying the house. NorPest Green is a unique pest control method from Northwest Exterminating that specifically targets insects, but is a green solution of plant essential oils that are both family and pet friendly. With the revolutionary green alternative Continue reading
